Google Files For $2.7B Public Offering
Finally we have it...the Google IPO!
Increasingly we hear e-learning pundits describe Google as the best learning tool ever invented:
Using Google for learning rejects the notion of instruction in favour of information. Which, historically, Instructional Designers have seen as a bad thing. Maybe it's time to re-examine that position. In the information age should we continue to place a higher value on instruction than on information? Or is there room for both?
If Google is being perceived as the best learning tool ever, it's because it has developed relevant notions like adjacency, weight and PageRank, implemented them in a smart, innovative process which is embedded in a lightning-fast user friendly interface.
What LMS, what LCMS, what competency engine, what third party or custom courseware library or curriculum, what instructional design theory has done anything that even comes close in terms in responding to today's learning needs?...Not One!
(From Don Morrison's white paper titled 'What do Instructional Designer's design?')
